The Spectrum Wellness Garden
Join us in bringing the health benefits of gardening to people with disabilities!
Designed for accessibility, the Spectrum Wellness Garden on Railroad Street in Decorah will make gardening possible for clients in our Adult Day Services program, enabling them to enjoy the physical, psychological, cognitive, and social benefits of gardening.
How you can help
- Donate supplies such as garden hoses and fencing
- Volunteer a few hours to help plant, weed, or harvest, from June through October
- Make a financial donation to help cover costs related to getting the garden up and running.

Therapy for mind, body, and soul
Our garden will feature raised beds, wide paths, and trellises for accessibility; and flowers and herbs for sensory interaction. Clients will assist in planting and maintaining the site, and experience the miracle of watching things grow, day by day. Staff members will teach the gardeners cooking, healthy eating, and food safety in our on-site kitchen.
Gardening is an enormously restorative activity. It provides exercise in coordination, strength, and stamina. It frees the mind of tension and frustration. And it teaches skills like teamwork, self-esteem, and self-confidence.
The Wellness Garden will help create access to these benefits for many—for example, those who are unable to sit at ground level, are mobility or sight impaired, or have memory or intellectual difficulties.
For more information on the garden or to arrange a tour, call Deb Schott at 563-382-8401.
