Nordic-inspired art exhibit opens July 19
An opening reception for "Out of the Trunk: Decorah Townsfolk Interpret the Norwegian Visual Experience" will be held on Tuesday, July 19, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm at The Spectrum Network in Decorah. The exhibit will feature fourteen local artists--including both professionals and teachers of their art--whose work reflects the Nordic inspiration, traditions, and techniques so prevalent in northeast Iowa communities. The public is invited to meet the artists and enjoy a sampling of Scandinavian pastries provided by The Spectrum Network's Day Services Program.The show will include work by Matthew Alexander (painting), Claire Butchkoski (knitting), Rachelle Branum (appliqué), Laura Demuth (weaving), Darlene Fossum-Martin (kolrosing), Laurann Gilbertson (skinfell-printed sheep skins), Ruth Green (rosemaling), Sarah Iverson (fulled knitting), Ellen MacDonald (chip carving), Dan Mansfield (wood carving), Kate Martinson (nålbinding), Elisabeth Maurland (graphic prints), Harley Refsal (wood carving), and Norma Refsal (jewelry).
The exhibit will be on display from July 19 through August 19, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with special opening hours on Saturday, July 30, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, to coincide with the forty-fifth annual Nordic Fest Celebration. The Spectrum Network's gallery is located at 607 Washington Street in Decorah. The building is air-conditioned and wheelchair accessible. For more information, call 563-382-8401.
