"A Taste of August" in Decorah

The Spectrum Network will host "A Taste of August," an elegant evening of fine food, wine and music on Sunday, August 22, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Larry and Diane Grimstad of Decorah have graciously lent their barn for the occasion. Chef Mark Rollins will prepare a special meal using fresh ingredients from the local harvest.

The evening will feature silent and live auctions of "experiences," such as a lake home getaway, a private party at ArtHaus, a painting lesson with Mary Ann Gloe, a landscaping consultation from Lindsay Lee, and more. The event will also include performances of acoustic jazz piano by Tom Bourcier and classical guitar by Tom Misseldine.

Guests will receive a complimentary copy of From My Perspective, a new collection of essays edited by Rachel Faldet. Written by staff, clients and community members connected with The Spectrum Network, the essays tell stories of encountering obstacles. This collection is the outcome of a writing workshop led by Faldet earlier this year.

Spectrum's executive director, Toni Smith, says that "A Taste of August" is the signature event of the organization's 35th anniversary celebration. According to Smith, the fundraiser's theme of "abundance" reflects the community connections that make Spectrum's work possible--"Abundance of the harvest, of community, and of the hope and possibilities for the men and women we serve."

All proceeds from "A Taste of August" will support services provided by Spectrum to people with disabilities, mental Illness, chemical dependency and other barriers.

A limited number of seats are available for "A Taste of August," starting at $75 per ticket. Click here for event details or call 563-382-8401.
